Hi, mine worked a bit different. I performed the steps above and upon installation I received an error message saying "Error installation, install.wim does not exist"

Then I only used the registry hack and still used my original Enterprise DVD and it worked. :)
Sweet, Thanks for this!

For those of you trying to install the N version of Windows 7 over the RC, I was able to get past the compatibility check by setting the EditionID to "ProfessionalN" (no space, that's important) and changing "Ultimate" in the productname to "Professional N" with a space. I aborted it though, as I was able to find a copy of Enterprise non-N media instead. Hope that helps.

I'm thinking the reason you can't upgrade is because Windows N editions don't include media player and, therefor, are not a valid upgrade target.

I'm not sure you can upgrade any Windows version to an N edition unless it's another N edition. (again, totally not sure but it makes sense in my head).

Thanks for writing this. I am going to try and change a legit version of Ultimate to Ent Edition (due to company licenses) So hopefully ti will all work.
A big thanks for writing this article, it may save me a complete install.
